The meaning of ‘Umrah : Linguistically : ‘Umrah (عمرة) is derived from I’timaar (اعتمار) which means a visit. Legally/Shar'ie (Islamic Law) : it means paying a visit to Ka’bah, performing Tawaaf (circumambulation) around it, Sa‘ie between Safaa and Marwah 7 times and lastly cut/shave one’s hair. The Rites of ‘Umrah : Intention (niyyah) – Ihram & Miqat Tawaf 7 rounds - round the Ka‘bah Sa‘ie between Safa & Marwah 7 x Cut or Shave one’s hair = complete Tawaf Wada‘ – when leaving Makkah – a disputed ritual for ‘Umrah among scholars.
